Unlike most other Islamic countries, prominent women are not uncommon in Algeria and are known to hold positions of power.
French is the lingua franca of Algeria due to French colonization of Algeria between 1830 and 1962. The European immigrants in Algeria during this time were known as “pieds-noirs”, meaning “black feet” in English.
Couscous is the national dish.
